Horseback riding and Agrigurismo

Hi everyone. It's Diane. I recently posted a topic called Help with 21 day ittinerary. Thanks to all who replied there.

Planning on sleeping in the following locations

3 nt Venice

1 nt Verona

3 nt Cinque Terre

3 nt Florence

3 nt (???)Somewhere in Tuscany or Umbria at an argiturismo
where we can eat local food, drink local wine and
ride horses for full days thru hills, vineyards, small villages, etc.

** Does anyone have a recommendation? ***

So far I am considering these three

1) Il Vecchio Maneggio in San Gimingnano
2) Hotel Prateggiano in Maremma
3) Il Paretaio in Barberino Val d'Elsa (1/2 way between Siena and Florence

Each offers different accomodations and pricing and riding.

So far out of maybe 30 this is what I have narrowed it down to. I am hoping the post of HORSEBACK riding will get someone's attention who did what is referred to in Italy as "horse trekking" (strikes me as funny) - ride out for 4-5 hrs with a picnic somewhere and return to the same place to sleep. We aren't up to riding out and sleeping here and there and frankly don't want to invest that much. I own a horse and sort of feel GUILTY about going on vacation to ride another horse! But I just have this vision of doing something unique.

please chime in!!

Diane--Your itinerary sounds wonderful! Have you searched for reviews of the agriturismos at tripadvisor.com? I don't know if there are any reviews but there might be. For some of the places we've been interested in there aren't any reviews but I figure that someone has to be the first and just take a chance. I also take the reviews--especially bad ones--with a grain of salt, realizing that sometimes someone just had a bad experience or that the review is by the competition.
Sounds like a fantastic trip...just don't tell your horse!

While staying at Il Canto del Sole this summer, just south of Siena, we went horse back riding at FATTORIA PIEVE A SALTI, located near Buonconvento, which is maybe 30 minutes south of Siena. You can arrange for a ride while staying elsewhere, or you can stay at the agriturismo there, too. Here is the website: http://www.pieveasalti.it/english/horse_riding_siena.htm
I just read an article about another place to ride. It is called Il Paretaio, located between Florence and Siena. Here is the website: http://www.ilparetaio.it/
