Thanks to all for replying to my original question. We decided to purchase tickets for the 110 ho ho bus online since there was a discount to do this. Their ticket claim info is a little contradictory, though. Do you think we can present the voucher for our tickets when we board or do you think we have to pick them up at the main ticket booth at the Termini station? Does anyone have experience with this? We would prefer to board the bus at the stop nearest our hotel and collect the tickets then. Thanks again
We found the 110 bus (run by the City of Rome) better because it runs more frequently. Buy your ticket on the bus the first time you board at any stop on the route.
We bought the Roma pass with gave us unlimited bus rides. We sort of made our own Hop-on hop-off.
I agree that the city run Bus 110 is the best hop on/off. It runs into the evening when most of them stop by 8:00
We just bought an all day metro card. It went everywhere the hop on bus did, went more often and was considerably cheaper. We saw people waiting on the bus, and when it came, it was too full and then they had to wait for the next one. Not fun in the hot sun.
Hi, Lise. I'm a HUGE fan of the hop on, hop off tours in most cities, and plug them just about any chance I get.
However, I found the traffic in Rome to be bad enough, that the routes took forever, and we burned up a good portion of our day that we didn't need to.
We would have been much better off just doing a city tour, and using our Roma Passes with the public transportation. (Roma Pass still makes sense, even if you get the hop off hop off tour.
Combine this with Rome's weather (aka H.O.T.), and 2.5 hours on that open top bus is not as much fun as it seemed at first.
I'd heartily recommend the advice given. Do a separate, air conditioned city tour, then hop the 110.
PS - GPS is great for figuring out where you are, and what you are close to. :)
The city red bus HO HO #110 covers over 80 sightseeing destinations. It will give you a wonderful overview of the city. Sit on top in front for the best view. The loop takes 2.5 hours. Ther will be an audio guide. The ticket is good for 24 hours.
