How far is the stop on the on/off bus from the Galleria Borghese? Is it easily walkable or do we need a taxi from the bus stop? Which stop on which bus should we use? How long would it take from the train station? We're leaving on a cruise in 10 days and would very much appreciate help! Thanks!
If there are two of you it would make sense to take a taxi from wherever you are in Rome to the closest point to the museum. Taxis are not expensive, and would probably cost less than the price of two hop-on-hop-off bus tix. Be sure to have reservations for the Borghese before arriving there.
The hop on hop off bus is great for a circle tour of the city highlights, but I wouldn't depend on it for transportation. They don't always come as scheduled and even though there is a stop in the general area of the Villa Borghese, it doesn't drop you off right there. A taxi might be your best option since you have to have a specific time reserved for the gallery.
For Borghese take a taxi. It is a long, long walk uphill from the Spanish Steps. Like Rick says, a taxi should deposit you a hundred yards from the entrance.
I agree with the previous posters a taxi would be easier, don't depend on the hop on/off bus service. I was in Rome last May and it was over an 1 hour wait at the train station for the first bus, and when I tried to get back on the bus at the pantheon, more than 4 buses went by before one had an empty seat. There are just two many people for the amount of buses! The tour however is pretty good, gives you a good orientation of the city, so I would recommend doing the whole tour than choose a spot to hop off but don't count on another bus picking you up!
