honeymooning in capri

next year we're taking a 16-day honeymoon--capri and avignon for the arts festival are the only must-dos. we're thinking of flying into rome for some architecture sightseeing and then heading to capri for a super romantic 4-day getaway. after that we want to make our way up from italy to provence and would even consider making our way over to northern spain at the end of the trip. anyone have favorite hotels in capri or recommended stops along the way to france?

Amber-
We just got back from Italy and this trip included a day-trip to Capri from Sorrento. While it was fun to go to for the day, it didn't seem particularly charming or romantic. Unless you really have your heart set on Capri, have been there before or find somewhere fantastic to stay, I would spend my romantic getaway somewhere else on the Amalfi coast.

Amber,

A few years back we spent a couple of nights on Capri in May and it was gorgeous. After 6 PM all the day trippers leave and you have the island pretty much to yourself. It's quiet, the locals come out, and the restaurants were not crowded.

I will have to say I cannot refer a hotel as we stayed on points at the JW Marriott Tiberio Palace & Spa - which I heartily recommend if you have the $$$$$ or the Marriott Points (Rooms start about $499 a night)! It was incredible with a wonderful spa. We had a huge suite with a 20 x 30 covered balcony overlooking the sea. (Being a Platinum Elite Member did have its rewards!)

I'm sure you can find a great hotel on the island. If you're looking for a quiet getaway then Capri is the answer. If you're looking for nightlife, it is a limited on Capri!

Congratulations and have a GREAT Trip!

Ciao,
Ron

Stayed at the Hotel La Tosca last July in Capritown. Found it on TripAdvisor (rated #1) and booked because it was relatively inexpensive on a very expensive island. You understand why at night when all the jewelry, glitz and glamour come out of the villas and the expensive hotels! Paid 130 euros, w/breakfast of oj, croissants, rolls. Rooms were very clean and pristine with a Mediterranean feel and air conditioning. Some rooms and the terrace have a beautiful view. The location can't be beat. You walk through the main piazza, down a few shopping streets and past a few of the fancy hotels, and head towards Giordina Augusto in Capritown. It's a cute little place amongst residential streets with a gorgeous view. www.latoscahotel.com
