Honeymoon Planning Help

Hi All-- my fiance and I are in the process of figuring out where to honeymoon next August and are really interested in doing a trip to Italy & Greece. We want to mainly visit coastal areas since we've already been to Italy, so our top places to hit are the Amalfi Coast, Venice, and/or the Cinque Terre in Italy and Santorini and any other islands (time permitting) in Greece. We will probably only have about 2 weeks for our trip, so looking for any suggestions people may have as we plan our trip!

We are a fairly active couple, but are looking to do a lot of relaxing, exploring, and eating/drinking!

How do you feel about heat? It can be brutal in those countries at that time of year. The Dolomites and other mountainous regions of Italy would be a bit cooler than the coast, and I think there are areas of mainland Greece that would be more pleasant, but they are not the areas first-time tourists gravitate to. Of course, tolerating hot weather is easier if you're on a 2-week (rather than longer) trip, and if you are planning time in the water.

One thing to do is take a look at the transportation options from Italy to Santorini on https://www.skyscanner.com/, so you know how much time that transfer will require. And plan to fly into Italy and out of Greece, or vice versa

We're definitely planning time in the water and just really want to be near the coast if possible!

Totally agree on doing an open flight. My thought was to fly in to Italy and fly out of Greece.

Check flight schedules with Vueling and Volotea (in January perhaps) for direct flights Rome/Venice to/from Thira (Santorini).

Something like this would work...
Fly in to Venice
Fly to Thira (Santorini)
Fly to Rome, then transfer to Amalfi Coast
Fly out of Rome

This is great! So here's what I'm thinking then:
Fly into Venice-- spend 2 nights
Fly to Santorini-- spend 4 nights
Fly to Rome & transfer to Amalfi-- spend 4 nights
Transfer to Rome-- spend 2 nights
Fly home

Would that work logistically? What areas do you think we should spend more time at?

Do you get my logic of doing Santorini as a 'shuttle' from Italy?
1. Saves you the long train journey Venice to Naples.
2. If flying home from Greece, you would have still needed to get a flight/ferry to Athens.

I would add a 3rd night in Venice as an unrushed romantic start to deal with any jet lag.
Two nights in Rome would be the minimum just for the iconic sights (without museums and churches).

It's great that you're planning early! A lot of people in Italy and Greece (as well as other European countries) take their vacation in the month of August and a great many of them head to the beaches of Italy and Greece. Be prepared for the heat and crowds in Rome and Santorini.

If you have both seen Rome before then 2 days would be sufficient to see some additional sights or enjoy a couple of the major sights that you have seen previously together on this trip. If you are planning to see the sights of Rome then I would encourage at least 3 days in Rome and reduce the Amalfi Coast or Santorini to 3 days to make up for it.

Congratulations and enjoy the trip!
