Hello, My hubby and I are going back to Rome (2nd trip)& London (my 3rd-his 1st) in November for our Honeymoon and this is my semi finished itinerary. I have a request in to book the Scavi tour, just waiting to hear back. We are also debating on going again to the Borghese b/c we loved it so much! Leave for London
Since you'll be on the Trastevere side of the river for Castel Sant'Angelo, you could walk through Trastevere that evening. On your day 2 walk, you couuld take in Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori, and the Pantheon, with a look at San Luigi dei Francesi for the Caravaggios. There is also an elevator you can ride to the top of the Vittorio Emmanuele monument for amazing views of Rome. In Florence, just a few blocks north of the Accademia is the Museum of San Marco, a former Dominican convent where each cell has a fresco by Fra Angelico. It's a small museum and won't take more than an hour or two, but it is unique. I go to the Galleria Borghese every time I visit Rome. Have you walked through the park to the Pincio, and then down to Piazza del Popolo? Congratulations and enjoy your honeymoon!
Unless you're really comfortable with sprinting through museums, Day 6 looks pretty full. the Bargello is a wonderful museum, but it keeps short hours, so you would generally need to do that first. I'd suggest giving yourself an overnight in Florence and maybe fly from Florence to London, rather than returning to Rome. If you want to revisit the Borghese, you could do that on the morning of Day 6 and then head to Florence. I second the vote for the convent of San Marco, but you'd need more time to fit that into an already full day.
Zoe, We did the trevi fountain, piazza navona, etc. walk at night last time and want to do it during the day to actually enter the Panthenon. We are looking to do the Travestere this time, thanks! "with a look at San Luigi dei Francesi for the Caravaggios. There is also an elevator you can ride to the top of the Vittorio Emmanuele monument for amazing views of Rome." I have heard and been reading up on these sites, will look more into it, thanks! Oh my we loved the Borghese!! Yes, walked through the gardens, rode those yellow four wheel bicycle thingys and down to Piazza del Popolo. Florence is a day trip because I just haven't been able to get crazy into seeing it. I am reading up on it more to see if I actually want to stay a night or two but from how we felt on our last trip (Rome & Venice) I missed Rome tremondously! Thank you for the references, I will look into them. Oh and thank you for the congratulations!! :)
Sherry, I figured I would cut that day down, was planning on reading up more and see what we would enjoy more and wanted to hear suggestions! I've been looking into maybe flying out of Florence to London but it just adds another place to stay but then again would only be a one way ticket instead of roundtrip which would probably even out... I've kept our days a little less packed because hubby couldn't keep up with my intinerary last time and had to nap between our day and night excursions, while I explored our B&B neighborhood (right outside the Vatican) on our own. I have to say, we wouldn't be going to London if hubby didn't want too, I would have preferred staying in Italy BUUUTTT marriage is compromise, right? Hee hee... Thank you both for your input, it has been very much appreciated!! :)
Suggestion for your day in Florence. We took the train into Florence from Cortona in the AM and out of Florence around 8:30 pm. This was day 11 of our trip, so we'd walked a ton already and I had a couple painful blisters that day. So timing couln't have been better for the Segway tour we took. It was about 3 hours, had a guide with headphones in your helmut and it was an awesome way to get around Florence and see everything in a short period of time and get a tour at the same time. There were only 4 of us on the tour and I think the max was six. We didn't get to go into buildings but it was a gorgeous day and I was churched out at that point. I think the tour was from 10-1, we then wandered, and ended up at the Ufuzzi for our 4pm reservation. Then a nice relaxing dinner a short distance to train station. Almost lost track of time and had to sprint to catch our train.
Karen, Thank you for sharing your experience! I will look into every single reference, either with daytrips or staying for one to two nights... Thank you!! XOXO!
