honeymoon itinerary

Hello,
I’m planning my honeymoon to Italy for next year. It will probably be late march/early april. It will either be from 3/24/18-4/7/18 or from 3/17/18-3/31/18 (flying out the first day & back the last day of both sets of dates) . So far, I’m planning on going to venice and Amalfi coast – probably staying in Sorrento as a base and traveling to positano, etc. for day trips. I want to add in either Tuscany or lake como to my itinerary, but can’t decide which would be better for a honeymoon. We plan on flying from Newark into Venice and probably flying home from Rome due to cheaper flights, so I was planning on spending my last night going from Sorrento and staying overnight in rome. Can you advise which would be better for a honeymoon that time of year between tuscany & the lakes? My fiancé and I aren’t planning on doing tons of museums/art. We’re more into beautiful scenery, relaxing, eating, drinking, exploring the ara, nature hikes. We’d maybe go to a museum or 2. This would be the first time to Italy for both of us. We would probably traveling by train between locations. Also, I know that easter falls on 4/1 next year, so will that affect any of our plans for the places we’re planning to go? Thanks!

OK, first in planning your trip use nights instead of days. 2 nights = 1 full day in a location.

So, I think 2 full days in Venice is the minimum, especially for a honeymoon, it is one of the most romantic cities in the world.
Then perhaps a night in Verona, a short train trip from Venice and you can see Juliette's balcony and have some good food.
Then to Como or Varenna on Lake Come for a night or two.
Then train to Siena or Florence for three days.
Then train to Sorrento and day trip the Amalfi Coast, or go all the way to Positano and stay (this will require a transfer from Sorrento train station by car or bus, suggest you take a cab for 120 euro or so. Easier). If you want to see the coast it is better to stay on the coast as transport is difficult.
Then train to Rome airport for the night and home the next day.

But, you need to figure out what exactly you want to see then plan it. You have a lot of moving around here and that can take its toll. Maybe you keg up in just a couple of places and relax. That would be Venice and the Tuscan countryside.

I agree with the previous advice, you'll enjoy your visit much more if you cut down on the number of destinations. I would say to plan at least 3 nights in each location, so perhaps:

Venice 3 nights, including a day's stop in Verona on the day you leave Venice.
Lake Como 3 nights
Tuscany 3 nights
Train to Rome; stay there the night before you fly home.

I would save Sorrento and other southern Italy destinations for a future trip.

Best wishes on your wedding!

Add time in Venice....so wonderful and romantic. 3 nights?
Not sure about Lake Como weather at that time of year....sketchy...

Venice, Florence, Rome a no brainer...maybe Tuscan towns. 3 places in your time frame would be the most I would recommend for a relaxing trip...IMHO :)

One night in Rome? Two would be bare minimum suggested to see main sights, for a city it is romantic in the historic center.

It you go over Easter ( April 1st) be mindful of closings and crowds.

Check this out....Hotel Adriano Rome...near Piazza Navona 5 minutes, all within 15 minute walk: Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps, a few more minutes Campo di Fiore, and Trastevere 20 tops...we are New Yorkers so walking is normal!

Enjoy, pack light you will be happy about that. I always put a thin light duffle bag in the bottom of my 22" roller for things I want to take back.
