Honeymoon in Tuscany

I am planning a honeymoon between Cinque Terre and Tuscany. What recommendations in Tuscany for a place to stay as well as day trips, other ideas etc, do you have for 3 to 4 nights? I'm thinking one home base and then day trips around the area. We love food and wine! What's the best way to get to the Tuscan town you recommend from Monterosso (where we will be staying in CT).

Assuming you are travelling by train Florence would be the best choice as a base from Florence you could day trip to Siena (by bus) or take the train to Pisa, Lucca.. There is so much to see and do in Florence you could stay very busy for 3-4 days You could hire a driver and do a wine tour for a day also you could do a food/wine tour of Florence there are a lot of tuscany tour options that are based out of Florence
the CT is also famous for wine so make sure to sample plenty while you are there

We stayed at Agriturismo Marciano, just outside Siena. It was fantastic. You can read all about it on their website and on Trip Advisor. We met a honeymooning couple from Brazil there, who thought it was a great place to stay for their honeymoon. It is best with a car to visit hill towns, but can be doable without a car. We were there for 4 nights. One day we went north to visit Volterra and San Gimignano, the next day we went south to visit Pienza and Montepulciano, plus an abbey that was on our route. Our third day we stayed in Siena. I wish we had more time in Tuscany. From there we went to Florence for a couple of days. I have to say we enjoyed our time at the Agriturismo more. If you do decide to stay there, do not miss the optional dinners they serve approximately every other night. Not only is the food to die for, getting to know the other guests from around the world was an unforgettable experience.

Siena, definitely. If you have time, Montalcino or Montepulciano (great for food and wine as well as gorgeous views). Be sure to go to Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence for a view of the city and bridges. The small town of Fiesole is very near to Florence as well, can be done in a couple of hours/half a day.

If you love food, why not try a cooking class? It may not be a typical 'honeymoony' thing to do but they are usually a lot of fun. I don't know any in Cinque Terre, but 'Cook Eat Italian' in Florence is worth a look. Public transport in Tuscany is only viable between the bigger cities. The little towns out in the country rarely have train stations and the bus services are not all that frequent. If you want to see them I would recommend hiring a car or taking a small group tour. Having written that, the SITA bus service between Florence and Sienna takes the scenic 'chiantigiana' route and allows you to stop off along the way.
