Honeymoon in Rome / Cinque Terre / Florence

My fiance and I are spending our honeymoon in Italy. We are arriving on May 15 and departing on May 27 from Rome. We will spend the first 2 nights in Rome, then we've already have 4 nights booked in Cinque Terre in Vernazza, but what would people recommend for our nights in Florence/Tuscany region? We would like to do some sightseeing of the city, but also possibly a day trip in Tuscany. Can anyone tell me about any good day-trip tours to Tuscany?

Jill,

I would spend one of those days taking a bus to Siena and spending a full day there.

Jill you might want to consider moving your Roma nights to the end of your trip. That way you will be where you need to be for the flight home. You won't "burn" a night retreating from somewhere else to make sure you catch the plane.

You could on arrival at Rome immediately take a train to somewhere in Tuscany for the first two nights.

Ah, thanks! These are all good ideas. Any recommendations on what to do about train tickets? Should we buy passes before we go online? Or wait until we get there?

We were in Italy in November 2008 visiting our daughter who was studying abroad in Florence for the semester. We visited Rome, Florence, Siena and Venice. Because of her being in Florence, we spent the majority of our time there. GREAT place to go. We did enjoy our day in Siena, however, I prefered the day trip we took to the Verrazano Winery. We took the bus from Florence and had a great time. The scenery is beautiful and the tour of the winery and the 4 course wine tasting lunch we had was so much fun. As far as a GREAT place to eat dinner in Florence, you must try Nerone's. We ate there 3-4 times. Food is delicious, house wine is fantastic and prices are very reasonable. What a great place to honeymoon!! From one Raleigh resident to another - enjoy your trip!!!!

Most likely, for the travel you will be doing point to point tickets that you purchase in Italy will be cheaper than passes.
