Honeymoon in July

Hi,

We are planning a 10-day honeymoon in Italy in the end of July/beginning of August. We were thinking of going to Lake Como for the second half, and doing something more city-oriented for the first 4 days. We heard Florence is way too hot in the summer, so we're thinking of Rome or Venice. Any thoughts? I've been to Rome (and loved it), but my fiance hasn't been to either. Any other cities you would consider?

Thanks!

Average high temp for Rome is only a couple of degrees cooler than that for Florence. Venice is, on average, about three degrees cooler than Rome. I think I might notice the 5-degree difference between Venice and Florence.

Como has about the same average high temperature as Rome (so warmer that Venice, on average). The truth is that it's likely to be warmish anywhere outside the mountains. You can go to wunderground.com and look at actual hour-by-hour temperature graphs for the month of June in recent years to get an idea of the range you might reasonably expect during the time you'll be in Italy. I think that will be more useful than just looking at the cities' average high temperatures for the entire month.

I think any difference in temperature is quite negligible to be any consideration when having to make a choice. After all, hot is hot. I would think if Lake Como figures in your plan, then ...
Fly in/out of Milan.
Spend 3 nights each in Venice, Florence, Lake Como.

We were in Rome, Florence and Pompeii and Sicily in August last year on our belated honeymoon eight months after our wedding. It was hot, low 90's, but we were in Italy. We didn't care. Sicily was the only place that was so hot we felt uncomfortable. Well, and Pompeii touring the ruins. Blistering hot. But we drank plenty of water and wore sunscreen and had a lovely time.
