Honeymoon in Italy - Recommendations

Hello! I am going on my honeymoon to Italy for 2 weeks at the beginning June and I’m looking for recommendations on tours & tickets vs. just walking around the city and exploring on our own.

Are there any museums that we definitely need to purchase tickets in advance so we don’t wait in long lines? We’ve already bought a Colosseum tour and a Tuscany vespa tour for the day, but I’ve heard tickets to buy in advance would be: Accademia, Uffizi Gallery, & Vatican Museum. Any others?

Here are the cities we're visiting - any recommendations on places to see, transportation (bus vs. train), areas to walk around during the day/at night and restaurants would be greatly appreciated!

Venice – 1 night
Florence – 4 nights
Rome – 3 nights
Sorrento – 5 nights (day trips to: Pompeii/Mt. Vesuvius/Herculaneum, Positano, Amalfi Coast, Capri)
Rome – 1 night (Last night in Rome where we'll be flying back to the US.

Congrats in advance. Definitely I would suggest a tour for the Vatican Museum just to skip the enormous lines. In Florence you don't necessarily need a tour for Uffizi and Accademia, but buying tickets in advance is strongly recommended. IMO roaming Venice on your own especially since you are only there one night is my suggestion. I would suggest 2 nights in Venice and 3 nights in Florence if you can. I am not very familiar with Sorrento. Enjoy our trip.

Why don’t you group all of your time in Rome together at the end of your trip, all four nights, traveling from Florence to Sorrento and then to Rome for the four nights at the end of your trip. You are wasting time traveling there and checking in and out of your hotel(s.)
Rome-dining. Armando al Pantheon. Plus good dining Apps- Elizabeth Minichelli’s EAT ROME and Katie Parla’s Rome.
Sorrento-dining
Pizzeria Tasso- much more upscale than it’s name implies. Good pizza too.
Ristorante Bagni Delfino- down at the fishing marina, fabulous seafood sitting by the water.
Capri-dining
Ristorante il Geranio..great views of the sea and excellent dining. Out on the pedestrian pathways near Giardini Agosto.
Giorgio’s in Capri Town, views. Good food.
Florence- yes, buy tickets online or call to L’Accademia, Uffizi.
Rome- buy tickets online or call for Vatican Museums, and Villa Borghese.

I would suggest 2 nights in Venice and 3 nights in Florence

group all of your time in Rome together at the end of your trip

Two EXCELLENT ideas.

One night in Venice, especially your arrival day, leaves you very little useful touring time.

Regarding tours, we took a new Walks of Italy tour in Florence last year that we really enjoyed - VIP David & Duomo Tour. You get in to see David when the museum first opens so crowds are limited. It goes through the museum and Baptistery before heading to the church and walking you up to the Terrace area (not open to the public). The rest of the climb is on your own, not included in the 3 hours. You don't get a lot of time in any one place, but it was about right for us to see the highlights and the guide was very informative and engaging.

Best wishes and may you love long and prosper. Suggest a minimum of two nights in Venice and three would be better. I's a great place to relax and get acclimated. And romantic to boot. Your plans for Sorrento seem a bit rushed and you might want to consider scaling back some. After the stress of most weddings you'll probably want (and need) some time to unwind. You want good memories of places, people, good food and wine. Not just memories of train stations as you rush hither, thither, and yon. Don't mean to sound like Debbie Downer, but this may be time when less is more.

My husband and I just did Rome and Venice for our honeymoon, and I would definitely recommend at least two nights in Venice! We did three nights and it was just enough time, but you can definitely see and do everything in two days.

For Sorrento and Amalfi Coast.

We were in Sorrento in March. We took an 8 hour tour with Travel Etc. (https://traveletc.it/it). We looked into the Rick Steves Mondo Shared Tours (https://www.sharedtours.com/) but it was low season and they were not operating.

The Travel Etc. tour was fantastic. Picked us up at our hotel. Had enough time to see Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi without being rushed. Had a great guide (Roberto) that knew the history of the area and spoke good English. The van was very comfortable and held 20 people. Tour included a light lunch and water.

I looked into the ferry and bus options. I would not recommend it as you will spend too much time waiting for your connections and not have enough time to enjoy the beautiful cities. I think our tour only cost us €150 for two people.

We stayed 2 nights at Hotel Regina. Loved it. On the cliff overlooking the peninsula. Get room 207 or 307 that have two balconies; one facing the peninsula and Mt. Vesuvius and the other facing the mountain overlooking Sorrento. 5 minute walk to old town and most good restaurant spots. Fantastic, free, breakfast. Friendly staff. Language is not a problem.

We just returned from Italy. It was our first trip. I was planning our trip for years! At first I thought of Sorrento as a base, but someone in this forum suggested Praiano at La Maurella and just by the pictures I fell in love with the hotel and location. I am glad that I did because it's right on the Amalfi coast, very quaint, with easy access to all other areas. We were there for four nights and three full days, can't say enough and the host is magnificent . You must visit Ravello, we took the bus to the village of Amalfi then transferred to the bus that takes you to Ravello, we were there for about four hours. In Ravello you must try the Gelato from Bafone, the best we had in Italy! In Positano we had a nice dinner at Trattoria La Tagliata, it's a fixed menu, lots of food! Beautiful views because you are all the way on the top of the mountain, if using the local bus beware that you schedule the times accordingly or you'll be stuck up there! We got the last bus into town, we were nervous. In Praiano we had a wonderful lunch at Trattoria Da Armandino right on the beach, delicious food. They are open for lunch then they close and reopen for dinner. We had a great driver, also referred from another forum.

Rome three nights it's a tease, we were there five nights four full days and I think that is the bare minimum. There is so much to see, not that you plan to see everything in one trip, but there are so many things to do and areas to explore. We walked everywhere in Rome, our hotel was centrally located. Trastevere is a wonderful area to visit, we walked the area on a Sunday afternoon, it was lovely. Check out Monte Pincio near Piazza del Popolo. When we visited the Colosseum we had lunch at Trattoria Morgana not far, again open for lunch then they close and reopen for dinner. It was very good, another restaurant we liked in Rome was Fiaschetteria make sure that you make reservations, we didn't and waited for about an hour! Enjoy your trip, you will love it!
