Honeymoon in Italy, early October

Hi,
My fiance and I finally have the green light to begin planning our honeymoon to Italy. We're coming from Boston, and will likely fly out the first weekend of October and return after Columbus Day (planning on 10-12 days). We know we want to spend some time on the Amalfi Coast and others have suggested we visit Capri. With the exception of spending some time, perhaps in Rome, visiting some museums and other cultural attractions, I think we'd like to spend more of our time exploring some of the small towns and being off the tourist beat. We're also keen on staying in an agroturismo during our visit. We are at the beginning stages here so any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

in october, the weather (and the boat schedules) in capri/amalfi are far from ideal. on the other hand, october CAN be good weather and is still harvest season in tuscany, where the best little towns in italy abound! Try the area between florence and siena, plus Pienza, montepulciano, and the wonderful wine (Brunello) and food (Grappolo Blu) of Montalcino! Maybe Cortona. Less tourists than normal, often good weather (but have sweater or jackets!)

Have you considered Venice? It really is wonderful for a honeymoon and you would be going during a slightly less crowded time of the year. It's incredibly romantic.
