honey moon italy 12 day iternary

Hi,
My fiance and I are planning to visit italy for 12 days after our marriage. This is my first time but she has visited italy a few times. I looked at some iternaries but wanted help figuring out what the best travel iternary is. These are the list of places she loves i italy and would like to revisit with me.

List of places - Venice, Positano, Cinque Terre, Amalfi Coast.

please share what the best travel plan is for 12 days. Thank you for sharing.

Well the good thing is that Positano is on the Amalfi Coast, making only 3 main locations. You do have two seaside/coastal destinations, do you need both? Best flight plan would be to fly into Venice and out of Naples (but make sure you are IN Naples the night before so you can make your flight with more certainty vs the coast), making your way south(ish). The travel between Venice and Cinque Terre and Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast is going to be LONG. You will need to ask her as to what she wants to do there as strangers on the internet don't know what types of things y'all like to do and would enjoy the most. When I go to a place I have already been, I make sure to do at LEAST one new thing. You might want to see if there has been something she has missed before that she would like to do. It is way easier to think about your time in Italy as nights, as you will have less of them to divvy up your travels between. if it's 12 NIGHTS, then you could do 4 nights in Venice, 3 in Cinque Terre, 4 on the Amalfi Coast, and 1 in Naples.

Italy is my favorite foreign country filled with history, amazing art and scenic places.

The places you listed are great, but you left out two of my favorite places, Florence and Rome.
Venice is a must, it is special, no other city quite like it and three days is enough do see there.

The Amalfi Coast is great but not close to your other sites. Most people that visit the Naples area also visit Sorrento, Capri and Pompeii. You would need 4 days minimum there to do all that. Also, the Amalfi Coast is in some ways like Cinque Terre, a scenic place alongside the sea. Perhaps you should eliminate either Cinque Terre or the Amalfi Coast FOR THIS TRIP.

Your fiancé has been to Italy and loves those place, I get it, but does she wish to explore new places.
Rome is amazing and filled with ancient Roman history as well as the incomparable St. Peter's Basilica and Sistine Chapel.
Consider a few days in Rome. Florence is another special place, especially if you love art.

Perhaps you should do some research on things to do on TripAdvisor for places in Italy and find out WHAT are the key sites. Then, make sure you and your fiancé agree.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations!

When is this trip?

Have you scrolled thru this forum? there are many threads about visiting the AC and setting up an itinerary

Any interest in Rome or Florence or Tuscany? A new place rather than all repeats for you fiancé?

Until we know more Katherine’s plan would work perfectly

Get a good guide book (RS Italy works)
Until then here’s some info

Please add what month you will be traveling, but any three places (for 12 days) will be divine.

Thank you all for your input. I really appreciate it. Aug 18-31 2024
I like the suggestion to eliminate Cinque Terre. Do you have any recommendations for best cities to stay in on the Amalfi coast as well as best restaurants?

And is that this August or 2025?
August is busy and lots of places will be booked already, so that would change my plans considerably.

If 2024 you might want to get on booking.com pronto and see if there is any availability in Positano and whatever town you choose in CT

If 2025 you’ve got plenty of time to plan

All of the Amalfi Coast villages are close together, so pick one and travel to the others by ferry, So, anywhere on the ferry line is fine.

However, you will be very limited by what is available--start your search now.

I love the idea of 12 days split among Naples, the Amalfi Coast, and one of the islands offshore--in whatever combo appeals to you and your wife.
There are always cancellations possible, so you might luck out. See what is on offer, and come back if you need alternatives.

I like dropping CT - for all the reasons stayed above
It looks like you have 12 nights?

You might consider Ischia or Capri for a few nights

Venice 3 nights
Fast train to Salerno then Ferry or driver to Positano
Positano 4 or 5
ferry to
Ischia or Capri 3 or 4 nights
Ferry to
Naples 1 ( if you want to visit Pompeii give Naples 2 nights and visit Pompeii from there)

Have you researched your flight options?
In to Venice, out of Naples would be the best
This is a multi city ticket ( not 2 one ways)
Use Google Flights to see what your options are but always book directly with the airline

First and foremost is finding lodging in Positano. Book refundable til you get itinerary and flights se

hey hey joe
is this honeymoon this august 2024? like others have said you are late in planning. it is high summer season with many travelers wanting to see the same places/towns you want with crowds everywhere, especially water/ocean areas plus many cruises around italy.
I would really get moving on booking.com to see what’s available at this late time, your budget, amenities you hope for, cancellation policies.
do a multi-city flight (into venice out of naples). check in times is usually 2-4pm and check out 10-11am, really important to some so no waiting hours with luggage or hotel will hold them, pack light. look at the transportation you will need. things may change with places to see if you can or can not reserve them. be flexible. good luck

I would suggest that, with your limited amount of time, you only do three locations. Considering the stress associated with most weddings, you'll want (and probably need) time to relax and decompress rather that just go, go going. Venice is an excellent starting point and a few days there will be a great way to start a honeymoon. Try not to lose too much time traveling between far flung locations. Love long and prosper!
