Home Exchange in Italy

I am a big fan of home exchanges having just completed my first two (one in Spain/one in France). I have been trying to arrange one in Italy for over a year now but have been unsuccessful. It doesn't seem to be as popular with Italians as it is elsewhere across the globe. I don't see a lot of talk (other than mine) about home exchange - which kind of surprises me because it is such a wonderful way to experience other cultures and people (fitting in precisely with Rick Steves Europe through the Back Door philosophy). If anyone knows of anyone in Italy who would be interested in such an exchange please let me know (via personal e-mail). I'm particularly interested in area's near coast with beaches; also Rome. If anyone is interested in learning more about home exchange and how it works, I would be delighted to share my knowledge and experiences with them.

hi Kerry,
Such agreements are starting to gain popularity in Italy as well. Have you been posting to Craig's list? This is usually a good venue.

I have heard of using Craigslist for that purpose and I'll give it another try. Thank you.

Other advice I have seen suggested that Italy is notorious for people who really just want to rent you a place. Many say that the Italian half of the deal will, at the last minute, back out of the exchange and then suggest they can find a place for you to rent.

That's unfortunate. I'll keep that in the back of my head.
