Home base for puglia

We’re spending several days in puglia and was wondering about a base in the north and south of Puglia.
We are thinking about 2 nights in Polignano a Mare or Monopoli, 2 nights in Ostuni and 2 nights on Otranto.
What are your thoughts about splitting it up this way? I know it takes about 3 1/2 hours or more to go from top to bottom and I don’t want to spend a lot of time on the road while exploring all the beautiful towns in the region.

What are your arrival and departure details? What’s on your list? You could compress this to two or even one base, so we need to know what you want to see and your transport choice.

It really depends on which places you want to visit and the time of the year.

If you are visiting in summer, then your choice of selecting places near the water makes sense, it’s a little breezier on the shore and you can enjoy the beach.

Based on what you’ve shared so far, I would probably drop Ostuni for a night stay, because if you stay in Monopoli or also Polignano, you can visit Ostuni on a day trip from either of those locations. I don’t think it’s more than 40-45 min drive.

We will be going in September and I’m thinking about staying in Monopoli and Otranto after doing more research. Places we’d like to see are possibly Ostuni, Lecce, Polignano A Mare, and Bari, Locorotondo, , Santa Cesaria Terme or Torre dell Orso. We probably won’t get to see all of these.

You can visit all the locations you mention from your two bases. They are all within 40 minutes from their respective bases. If you go to Locorotondo I’m sure you will want to see Alberobello, since they are only 5 min drive from each other.

You can visit Lecce, Santa Cesaria and Torre dell’Orso from Otranto. They are all within 30-45 minutes.
The rest in your list are closer to Monopoli.
However if all you have is 6 nights on the ground, there is no way you can visit all. Each of those locations will require the best part of a full day to enjoy, and two nights is just one full day. Locorotondo and Alberobello can be seen on the same day trip, being so close.
