Every 25 years, the Pope declares a Jubliee (the next in 2025), typically resulting in a drastic increase in the number of tourists to Italy, especially Rome. We're planning a visit next March/April (well in advance of Easter), so if anybody has had any previous experiences, I'd appreciate hearing your suggestions. Thanks
I went to Italy (including Rome) three times in the 2000 Jubilee year (in January, June and around the end of November). I had a lot of sins to remit so I took advantage of the 25 year wholesale forgiveness spree.
My only advice is to try book hotels in advance because it will be difficult to find last minute accommodations, at least not in the better spots. As far as crowds are concerned, Rome is always crowded so it won’t be much worse than usual, at least you chose the right time of the year to go, when the weather is more amenable. I’ve been in Rome for the past couple of days, and I think a sauna would have been a lot cooler, it’s been in the 40s Celsius (104 F) and it wasn’t pleasant.
