Holiday closures in small Tuscan towns

My family and I will be in Tuscany on May 1. We are staying in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, which is pretty small, and some wineries and restaurants in that area will be open on the holiday. But I am not sure how common that is. I would love to visit the Montepulciano area on May 1, but as of yet have no specific destinations in mind that I can call to check about their holiday plans. Does anyone happen to know what the general practice is on the May 1 holiday in the Tuscan hill towns? Thanks.

It can depend on the region, but most stores will be closed. Banks and museums will be closed. Most bars, cafes, and restaurants will be open in towns with a tourist orientation. Some tourist oriented shops may be open.

hi May 1 will be a busy day for restaurants and touristic places - Italians like taking a break on that day. Just check what is open and what is not.

Anything worth saying is worth saying twice, or maybe three times....;-)
