How do I plan my days in Cinque Terre?
For Rome and Volterre there are private tours to fill the free time.
Any advice is appreciated.

Here are some ideas:
Take the train to the other 4 villages if you’re staying in Monterosso.
If the weather is good take the ferry from Monterosso to Rio Maggiore and the train back stopping in each town.
Walk around Monterosso- old town, new town, beach areas.
Sit on the terrace at Hotel Pasquale and sip a Hugo Spritz, a Limoncello Spritz or an Aperol Spritz, lol.
Hike the trail in either direction.
From Hotel Pasquale in the Old Town walk up to the statue of Saint Francis of Assisi and further up to the Capuchin monastery to see the VanDyke painting.
On one RS tour I did that stayed in Monterosso, some folks rented kayaks.
The tour guide will also have some suggestions. I think there are ideas in the guidebook too. Do you have it yet?
This was my first RS tour and it was an excellent introduction to Italy and Rick Steves tours.
