Hiring a driver

Ciao! I'm thinking of hiring a driver to go from Rome to Florence so we can make some stops along the way. Im not very comfortable with renting a car. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance

Have a look at romelimo.com. According to their website they do lots of touring and transfers. I have never used the company but have seen it recommended on this forum in the past. No doubt this way of seeing the country will not be inexpensive.

Thank you, Norma! I'll bet it will be expensive...just looking at options. I will check that out. Have a great day !

Are you planning on stopping anywhere really unusual? Train service is great and really inexpensive in Italy. If you're talking about stops you make over the course of a single day transfer, that's a little harder by train as you need to store luggage etc. But if you're talking about actually making a significant stop in a town for a night or two, the train may be the way to go.

I did a 5 hour stop in Munich on a train route and it went just fine. If you'll limit yourself to one stop, that's a viable option. If you're hoping for more than one stop on a travel day like that, you're limiting yourself to some pretty quick stops anyways.

It's going to be expensive, if price is no option go for it. I used one around Tuscany and loved some of the places we stopped at between cities. I used Luca over at Hills and Roads. www.hillsandroads.com/

I have booked for June, but not yet experienced, Leonardo Tarquini of TodiDriver. He was recommended by an Italian teacher of mine. He's in Umbria, obviously, but might be a good choice if your stops are more in Umbria than Tuscany. You might save some money by letting him pick you up in Rome, drive you around, and then drop you at a train station south of Florence when you're done instead of driving all the way there. (Perugia? Arezzo? wherever you end up). Because he doesn't have as far to go to get home, it might save you a bit but still give you the flexible day you want. I don't know, just suggesting. His website is TodiDriver, and he responded to my email the same day, despite the time difference.

If you want to see things rent a car (don't drive in Rome… drop it off in Orvieto). Otherwise take trains. That's a 'no-brainer'.

Great idea! I've decided to rent a car but will look into Orvieto to avoid driving in Rome. Thank you!
