Looking for a trendy place in Rome to keep the teenagers engaged!
Need a place that will sleep 5 (my husband & me and 3 teens) and require
air conditioning. Will be traveling next June 2018.
Thanks!
You might want to see what Booking.com has to offer.
Room for 5 is somewhat rare.
You might do well to find an apartment. Nice to have extra space with 3 teens, a place to store snacks and make light meals is excellent, too. Plus you can usually find a 2 bedroom apartment for less than 2 hotel rooms.
That said, I bookmarked this link http://www.italyheaven.co.uk/rome/hotels-special.html and although we haven't stayed at any of these hotels (yet), it might fill you need.
following on the apartment idea - I stayed in a very hip apartment in Prati, an urban professional residential neighborhood near the Vatican. The owners rent it either as a b&b or as a whole apartment; I just took one single room. My friends stayed nearby. It has 2 double and one single bedroom, and at least two, maybe 3 bathrooms. Gorgeous kitchen, big dining area, big living room with modern furniture. It's stuffed full of interesting modern art and books, has a killer view of St. Peter's dome, and lots of room for teenagers to sprawl out. And air conditioning. It has a cool but quirky metal-caged elevator or a beautiful staircase to get to the apartment door on the 3rd or 4th floor, don't recall. The neighborhood was really fun - great restaurants and a wonderful shopping boulevard with more reasonable prices and less touristy items (I got stuck in an incredible Italian housewares store but fortunately escaped without burning a hole in my credit card and needing more luggage. But wow, do they have cool designs for simple items.) We had some great meals, and walked easily to the historic center and all around the core of Rome without finding it a burden (4 middle-aged women with fitness levels varying from middling to never-ever.) Taxi stand right around the corner if you need to get to the airport, and bus stops just one street over, near the best-gelato-we-ate-in-Rome store.
I rented it through booking.com, but the owner told me he'd have given me a better price if I'd booked directly. So here are both links if you're interested: San Pietro Arte in Suite Booking.com; San Pietro Arte in Suite direct site.
Apologies to long-time forum members, I've posted this tip before, but I really liked this place, both the apartment and the neighborhood, and would stay there again. (Stayed July 2016, 5 nights.)
If you are like most parents including my parents, you would be mortified to let your kids see you undressed; if at all possible, get at least two rooms, one for your kids and one for you and your husband.
OK I don't know about trendy, but we just went to Italy for 10 days with my kids (girl-11 and boy-13). It was very 'cozy' to have 1 room. With 5 people, you need 2 rooms, or maybe a suite (not sure if many Italian hotels have those). I like the idea of an apartment, I bet it would be cheaper than 2 hotel rooms...next time I will do that as I think that if my kids were any older, we would not be happy in 1 room all together for that long. Have fun!
Hip, and very well located Palazzo Navona. A design hotel. Roof top bar with included hot appetizers. I saw a large room across the hall from us. Send them an email, very responsive.
We are heading to Rome in 8 days. I'll write a trip review afterward and let you know which area my family liked the best. I have three kids, ages 9, 14 and 16. We are staying our first three nights near the Vatican, and then traveling around Italy, and returning to Rome for one night, staying in the Travestere district, on our last night.
I have been seeking out lodging that fits our family, and gives enough privacy for everyone, and I opted for apartments most of the time, and in one instance, two rooms while we spend three nights in Tuscany at a medieval castle. Having two bathrooms seems to make the most sense for us and, in some instances, having a washing machine on site so we can minimize our packing. Getting an apartment allowed us to do that and filter out the places without the amenities we preferred.
Here is where we are staying our last night in Rome: https://www.booking.com/hotel/it/romanticasa-trastevere.html? - I've read the Travestere district is lively and I thought the kids would enjoy this particular apartment because it's roomy and has two bathrooms and plenty of sleeping options.
