Have any of you stayed at the Hilton hotel in Sorrento? I've read some reviews that said "not really worth the money, fairly isolated, long walk to town".
We will stay in Sorrento for 3-4 days and take day trips.
I 2nd the Ambasciatori. We splurged and stayed there for 2 nights one of only 2 rooms that have the exceptionally huge terrace jutting out over the sea. It is a fabulous location and a fabulous view from the terrace. The included champagne breakfast is also quite grand. There is also a pool, extensive gardens, and an elevator from the hotel down through the rock all the way to the sea bathing platform. If you want to impress somebody, this is the place to do it. Lots of old world charm.
I stayed at the Hilton Sorrento for 2 nights in June of 2008. Stayed with points and had an executive floor room with amazing views of Sorrento, the sea, Mt Vesuvius, and lemon groves surrounding the property from the room's balcony. It's situation above the town makes for some fantastic views. The room was very large and modern in design, with spectacular bathrooms.
Yes, it is a bit of a walk into town (probably 15 minutes) and it's on a hill, so the walk back is upwards. For me, this was a perfect way to walk off a large dinner and too much wine! And I'm sure you could arrange for transportation if you didn't want to walk.
As I said, I stayed free with points, so I can't really speak to value. If you have points and/or status with Hilton and don't mind being a bit out of the center, I would say go for it.
If you don't feel like the walk back up you can catch one of the local EAV buses from the railway station or the centre of town. There is a bus stop right by the hotel.
We stayed there this past march and it was super!
Short walk to town(maybe 10 minutes), great rooms, breakfast, staff, and views. don't understand the "fairly isolated, long walk to town, ect," comments, for us it was perfect and the price was right--on the exec level, and paid with points--what's to compare with "free?"
