We just stayed a night at the Hilton Garden Inn by the Rome Airport, before our departure.
It is about a 10 minute shuttle ride from the airport, out in the middle of air fields and industry. So, not scenic. But VERY convenient, and the shuttle, which runs every 15 minutes 24/7, is free. The stop-off at the airport is right at T3.
I had read some terrible reviews, both recent and in the past, on Google and TripAdvisor (mixed in with some good ones), so I am posting this largely to provide input for anyone who may be concerned about booking there.
It had all the basics, was clean, tidy, had good wifi, a kettle in the room, and our check-in & out was quite easy. We had a good lunch at the restaurant. Definitely more expensive than in Rome or any city/town in Italy, but not outrageous. (About 15E for a plate of pasta.)
The breakfast however, was 19E for a buffet - the only option. Which we did not take!
So I would recommend taking along a few pieces of fruit and some pastries to have in the morning. There is instant coffee in the room. (We pack our own drip-cone, filters, and coffee, so we always have that as long as there is a kettle.
Reviews I had seen elsewhere complained of no hot water, and we heard someone checking out complaining about that. However, we did not experience that. It did take a couple of minutes for the hot water to arrive, but when it did there was plenty.
We stayed on the 3rd floor and it's possible that it is harder to get water to the 6th floor (the person at the desk seemed to be explaining that the water came from a boiler, as they apologized to the person for their lack of it.)
Other complaints were of the hotel being smelly, old, with stained rugs and chipped bathrooms - that was not the case where we were! It was all fine.
So, while it's a bit dull, if you need a place to stay before flying out, I suggest this one worth considering. For the journey home, dull is for us preferable to stressed :)
Thanks for your comments! We are using the same hotel before our return flight to the states! I agree travel days are long so the easier I can make them the better!
