We plan to hike between Vernazza and Riomaggiore in late May 2014. Is trail #2 (lower trail) open - or will it be open in May?

Keep an eye on the Cinque Terre National Park website when you go. Color coded according to ease of hike. Red=closed.

James, even if Trail #2 is closed there is plenty of good hiking with amazing views. We like other trails better than #2. I have written about some CT alternatives here.

Trail 2 was closed when we were there this past spring, but there are many great alternatives. Try these, both of which provide amazing views:
- Trail 6 from Manarola to Volastra, connecting to trail 6d and then 7a down into Corniglia.
- Trail 8 from Vernazza to Sanctuario Madonna di Reggio.
You can also check with the Trek Guyd at Trekguyd.com. He can offer many suggestions.
