Recommendations for hiking sandals. I need good arch support and stability. Will be hiking Cinque Terre in July.
Keen Whisper or Newports.
If you're already a hiker (and I hope you are), what shoe do you currently hike in?
Do you have an REI in town? Keens are good for stability and arch support but they are heavy. I ended up with terrible achilles pain (!?) from a new pair of Keen sandals that worked great until the pain started, and I haven't worn them since. REI would have different brands and options and you could see what works best
I have traveled with Ecco Yucatan before and really liked them but I am open to one with more support.
I have two pairs of Teva sandals that are really comfortable, have good arch support and adjustable straps. The "Tirra" style is more solidly built, so I wear them more for hikes, etc. The "Verra" is a similar style, only a lighter, more streamlined version that I wear throughout the summer.
Keen Newport H2O
I alternate between my Keens, Tevas and Taos sandals and love them all equally.
Thread should be in walking shoes forum...
Keen's or, Chaco's are the outdoor industry standard, just depends on what fits and feels right; my feet don't like Chaco's but, others swear by them. Teva's used to be the standard but, they've fallen on hard times lately as the other two brands have taken their market share. REI Anniversary Sale is coming up in May, keep your eyes open and watch for the promos.
Ecco, Rockport and a few of the brown shoe brands have nicer, durable styles but, may not be suitable for the dirt/sweat of the trails.
I don't know if this includes hiking sandals, and maybe people only get fines if they have to be 'rescued' off the trails, but you might want to look into this...
