Hiking poles -- needed for Tre Cime loop and Val Gardena hikes?

I am not a regular hiker but in general decent shape. Both my husband and I walk several times weekly on the treadmill, even during this pandemic. We plan to hike around Tre Cime (the loop trail) and Val Gardena/Alpe di Suisi in September. We will stick to "easy" trails and have hiking boots. We will take breaks and have refreshments at the numerous mountain huts.

Would you recommend hiking poles? Did you use some while you were there?

We always pack them along to Switzerland and the Val Gardena. I really like them for downhill, especially. Gives me a little more stability on rocks, and you will encounter some scree and other uneven surfaces as well as some steep downhills. Better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

Consider investing in the collapsible ones that will fit in a 22" suitcase or in your back pack. You can also buy a functional non-collapsing pair for EURO 20.00-30.00 in shops.

Thank you. I will start with the more affordable and collapsible models.

We took collapsable trekking poles when we hiked in the Val Gardena several years ago. However, we use trekking poles when we hike locally to aid stability (prevent stumbles and falls), and also helps joints on downhill descents. So we are very used to trekking poles. I'm not sure I would want to use trekking poles if I'm used to hiking without them.
We have a trip planned for Switzerland in a few weeks and plan to pack them in our checked luggage.
