Hiking near Stresa

Hello,
Our family (5 adults) will be spending 9 nights in Stresa and Milano in September. Some of us are avid bikers and hikers. I've researched and found that for the most Alpine hikes (we were in Zermatt two years ago) we'd need to take lengthy train rides to begin hiking. There is also the possibility of taking a hike from Torino. Am I missing something closer to Stresa?
Also, we like to cycle. Two of us can ride all day (50 km or more), I can only manage about 15 miles. Naturally, we prefer designated bike paths, but I haven't seen any that really impressed us. (I saw one in Arona that looked just ok)

I have only booked flights, (I know, I need to book hotels or apt, right now!) so it's possible to located ourselves in Verbania or another larger town.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We're open to advice.
Thank you
J.

I did a lot of walking from Stresa when I was there in 2023. Above the town there are some nice walking, my phone recognized the access to trails
Chestnut Route 8km ,Mottarone Loop 4.9 ,Stresa to Gignese 10.8(although I didn't walk all of it)
Stresa had a cable car at one time but there was a terrible accident with fatalities several years before my trip, but it's still a walking landmark for some trails. Alpina to Baveno for example.
And since it's easy to ride the train from Domodossola to Switzerland I did that twice because why not?
like the Vigezzina Centovalli Railway.

Thanks so much for your quick response! I didn't know about the Gignese one. I'm sure we will walk the Chestnut route in town. I did know about the tragic cable car crash that occurred years ago.
I was planning on a ride to Domodossola one day, so I think we will do a hike from there, too. I will check out the Vigezzina Centovalli rail ride, too!
Thanks again.

There's a trail that essentially follows under the cable car route. Starting from Stresa you pretty much head uphill through the town to Someraro, a small village. There's a great restaurant there, Al Rustico, where you may be the only non-Italian speakers. From Someraro you can head north to Campino or south to Levo. There's another hike that takes you south to the town of Belgirate. It's a less strenuous trail, more rolling, but longer. I think there's a ferry that can then take you back to Stresa, or you can take the train or bus. We use Gaia GPS for hiking routes. By the way, we saw lots of cyclists on the road on our hike out to Campino.

Thanks to you both for this information! Sounds like we will have more than enough options to fill up our 4 days!
