Hi..i'm looking for some suggestions on hiking in Dolomites in September 24. I live in Denver so altitude is not an issue for me.
i'm looking for a 2 day walk not too much up hill. We will be using public transportation. Any suggestions for target areas, for places to stay..not need to be fancy..Thanks
From Ortisei you can take the cable car up. The right side of the mountain is dotted with cabins that offer restaurants and lodging. These descend down the valley miles. So you can probably plan something around where you would stay. If you are hardcore I saw a YT video of some guys who liked to mountain crest on Dolomites. There was a cabin free to stay.
Sexton/ Sesto is very nice ,stunning but then so much of the Dolomites are.
I think lot of the lifts close down at the end of September from memory.
Consider staying on Alpe di Siusi. It is Europe's largest alpine plateau so the walking is not difficult overall, but there are plenty of opportunities for more challenging hikes such as to the Alpe di Tires hut or Schlernhaus hut if you feel inclined. The following article provides details on how to reach Alpe di Siusi and some hikes to consider: https://throneandvine.com/alpe-di-siusi-hiking-guide/. We recently stayed at Hotel Ritsch. It is a beautiful farm that is centrally located and the owners are amazing. Have a wonderful time wherever you decide to go!
Tre Cima de Lavarado near Cortina d'Ampezzo is spectacular.
What do you mean by "not too much uphill"? If you don't like undulating walks, then the Tre Cima trail is not suitable.
