We hope to hike in the dolomites during our stay 3 day stay in early June. We will leave Lake Garda by train and head to either Bolzano or Bressanone. Which area has the most hiking available for beginner-intermediates and available by public transportation? I am leaning towards Bressanone and the Plose Gondola area. Can you recommend any trails?

The Ortisei area seems to be very popular, and also Alpi di Siusi.
Neither Bolzano nor Bressanone are in the Dolomites although they do have mountain hiking nearby. If you want to hike amid some of the iconic peaks of the Dolomites then I would stay in Val Gardena or Alpe di Siusi. Both holiday regions are accessible via public transit and have easy access to lifts.
