Hiking in May in Italy

Any recommendations for an area for medium level hiking for the month of May? My sons booked a flight - great deal - in and out of Milan and didn't realize at the time of booking that the Dolomites are not that accessible in May and still snow covered. Any suggestions of other places to pursue?

Thanks in advance. Their travel dates are 5/10-24.

We had thought of Cinque Terre - however - they have 8 days that they can hike and I feel like 4 would be plenty. Any other suggestions?

Did you check out the locations I suggested? They are not far from CT. I combined a stay in Barga with a stay on the coast, and we did some lovely hikes. I assume they planned on renting a car for the Dolomites.

I suggest you check out the Val Gardena website. There was not much snow this year. The lifts may not be running. But there are still tons of trails. Accommodation however maybe limited. We are going there in mid June. Good luck

A couple of the lifts in Ortisei, Val Gardena, open in May. The funicular at Rasciesa on the 12th and the gondola to the Alpe di Siusi at Mont Seuc on the 20th. See schedule here.

There is a lovely hike at Rasciesa along the ridge.

If they go to the AdS via the gondola they can hike quite a bit as a roundtrip and take the same lift down.

The lift at Compatsch doesn't reopen until the 24th but if they want to hike over to the other side of the AdS they can take the #10 bus down to Siusi from Compatsch and then connect to Ortisei. Check bus schedules at the TI as there are only a few a day.

PM me if you need more info. We go there a lot.
