Hiking in lucca

I will be spending almost 4 days in Lucca , traveling solo with no car. Is there a way to get transportation outside the city to do a hike?

I also wonder if folks have thoughts on a day trip to Barga. Would this be a worthwhile day trip on the bus?
Thank you!

Lucca is surrounded by hills and there are many walking/hiking clubs or tours.

You might consider the walk of the aqueduct that supplied the town water and still supplies the water to the various old fountains around the city. It starts in town and runs all the way up into the hills if you're interested:

The train goes to Bagni di Lucca (~25min) which is a series of towns in the nearby hills and gets you out of the city.

Biking is also popular around the walls or a bike trip to Pisa or even to the coast.

Enjoy,

I stayed in Barga and did some hiking while there. What time of year will you be there? If the schedule allows and you are an early riser, you could take a bus to Barga, do a short hike, then have lunch in Barga and explore the town before heading back. (I think there is a train too, but the bus takes you closer to town).
Maybe something like Alltrails or similar would help you find a good trail.
