We would like to find out when the lifts close down for hiking in September in the Dolomites. Last time we visited it was September10th, the last day of the season. Anyone know how long they will be running this year?
We hiked in the area Steve mentions in 2003. We were there around September 20,21,22. Most of the lifts were still going. (a few were closed, but they were not the main ones you want to use for hiking.) We hiked for 3 days and it was great. You do need to check times as the lifts and buses do not run as late this time of year. We stayed in Castelrotto and really enjoyed it. Have a great time.
Connie,
Thanks for the information. Carol
Different lifts have different operating dates, but most are open through September. Here is a schedule of dates for the lifts from Val Gardena;

I see only one (the Cir lift) that closes at the end of August; the rest are open to the end of September or even into October.
And here is a list for Val Badia, another terrific area for hiking:

Some of those lifts close Sept. 12, but most are open to Sept. 19 and two run into October.
I couldn't quickly find a similar schedule for the Alpe di Siusi lifts, but I see that Rifugio Bolzano, up on Schlern, is open to the beginning of october so that suggests the area lista are still open then.
I was just in the area in early sept last summer and it was fine!
