Hiking from Sorrento

We have four days in Sorrento this fall for hiking. I have the Price book and the vast majority of the hikes require an hour plus us ride every morning and then return. Perhaps we need local knowledge and can determine hikes when we arrive but my understanding is that the Price book is the best source. Any experience out there with hiking from Sorrento?

I did a couple of hikes out to the Punta Campanella which is the peninsula that juts out into the bay of Naples. I don’t remember how long the bus ride was but it was beautiful. You can take the bus from Sorrento to Nerano.

I don't have the Gillian Price book, and I see that no library in my NJ county has it either. But I suggest you review (easier to find) posts about setting a base between Sorrento and Salerno, purely to read about transportation. There is no doubt that Sorrento has the best public transit options in the area, but getting to other towns can still be a chore, from any given town. This is not a "metropolitan area."

Does the book include walking down (99% paved) from Sant 'Agata Sui Dui Golfi? That's a quick bus ride from the Sorrento train station plaza, and no bus needed home.

Not a true "hike", but from Amalfi, take the 1.000 stair walk/hike up to Ravello for the most amazing view. Ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi and start by the church, the path is well marked, and the walk up is really pretty, plus you walk right through some small communes to get there.

We did this both directions (up and back) and enjoyed a quick snack in Ravello (and some ceramics shopping) before taking the fast ferry back to Sorrento for dinner.

If you are talking about hiking various trails on the Amalfi coast, then yes, it will require a longer bus ride than hiking the Punta Campanella.

Check AllTrails. We did a relatively short hike from Termini (accessed by public transport bus from Sorrento) down to the Tower at the end of the Peninsula. It was about 8 km and 350 m elevation gain (loss down and then up to bus at Termini). There are longer hikes from Sant’Agata and others about the same length from Termini. Then you could kill 2 birds with 1 stone by taking a ferry along the coast to Amalfi or to Capri for other hikes that can be done in half a day plus transport time.
When we did it 9Oct2019, staying in Sorrento for 4 nights between Capri & Amalfi, it was sunny and hot so take water. I was glad for the gelato at Termini waiting for the bus.
