In June 2016 I will be studying abroad in Florence. I have 4 days to travel on my own and want to do some hiking in the Val Gardena area. Since my time is limited I was thinking that I could stay in Ortisei and do day hikes and loop hikes from there. What are the best hikes and must see things that I should focus on doing in or around Ortisei? Also if anyone has suggestions on places to spend the night as well as places to eat that would be great!

http://www.val-gardena.com/en/ give this website a look! I used it back in 2004 while at Selva Val Gardena in October and it was very useful. We took the Col Riser up and hiked back down to our rental apartment, http://www.risaccia.it. It was a great spot to rent and the owners were very helpful, dropped us at the lift! Beware of the duel names in both Italian and Austrian for towns and locations, it can be confusing for the uninformed! It is a beautiful spot. The apartment may be a bit pricey for a student!
