hi, i am travelling(first time) with my friend for a three nights two day trip to the dolomites. i am going to stay in colfosco. i intend to do day trips, for hikes or cable car. my aim is to see some breathtaking sites and i don't want to miss any special place if it is totally worth it . i also dont want to hire a local guide or undertake a guided itinerary. can i do the hikes alone ? do spare me some valuable ideas/ advice thanks ......

When you arrive, the TI should be able to give you great advice. I have more experience in the Val Gardena, but from a one-day visit to San Casciano last year I can tell you there are many opportunities for great hikes. Maybe some useful info here, too.

Forgot to say....it is early in the season so you really do need local advice as to what is open and accessible.

The Tre Cime are in the Sesto Dolomiti. We were in Moso in that area last June but later in the month. The lifts were open, it was cold in the mornings, but we did not go to the Tre Cime. I suggest you study the info on the websites about the area for lift openings, as a start. You can use some public trans in the Sesto Dolomiti, although we had a car. In the Alta Badia I think there is more support from public buses between the towns.
