Hiking CT Trails Solo

I am a female traveler planning on hiking the Cinque Terra trails alone in September. I plan on sticking to the ones that are closer to the towns. Are they safe? Any other tips greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I hiked many of the more remote trails solo last summer and did not run into any problems. The view is great and it is really peaceful.

There's a couple of spots that get slippery when it's damp. The other danger is getting your heels walked on by the people behind you. It's really not much of a hike, you can make an easy round trip of the whole mess in fall daylight, even if you stop for a coffee or beer and a quick look around in all of the villages. Walking the blue trail one way and the interior maze the other won't add more than an hour or so.

Leslie, I hiked the trails solo on my last trip to the C.T., which was in September. I found there were times when I was totally alone, and other times when a group of other hikes would wander past. The trails are not "technically difficult", although they are narrow in some places. As someone else mentioned some parts can be "slippery when wet", but if you hike in good weather that won't be a problem. I believe Rick mentioned recently in his Blog that one section was closed for repair of storm damage, but I don't know if that's still the case? The trails are well marked so they're not hard to find. I'd recommend starting in Monterosso and working south, as that's the most challenging part. Note that you'll require a Permit to hike (there WILL be people checking for those). Happy travels!

Yes, Yes, Yes - you can hike alone. There will be plenty of other people on the trails and it is very safe.
Enjoy your hike.......

Hi Leslie, Stick to the main trail and you'll be totally fine. I hiked it solo and had no problem finding my way at all. There are lots of people around too, so you won't get lost. You will love it. Have fun!!
