Hiking Along the Amalfi Coast

My husband and I have about a week to explore the Amalfi Coast before heading to a wedding in Tuscany. We love backpacking and staying in hostel-type accommodations where we can mingle with other travelers and locals. We are hoping to hike about 10-15 miles a day and would love to hear from others who have completed similar excursions in this area. We are flying into Rome and hope to spend a couple of days in and around Naples before we start hiking. Thanks for any suggestions you can provide!

There are two books that detail the hiking on the Amalfi and Sorrentine coasts, one published by Cicerone and the other by Sunflower.
A few hikes depart directly from Amalfi, so it’s a decent base. The area has really exploded—what month are you thinking of visiting?
Though this is a luxury area, I stayed in a remarkable bargain, a b&b in Cetara called Il Glicine.

We will be there in early May. Need to be at a wedding on the 27th in Tuscany so figured we would make the most of it. Thanks for the advice. We were hoping to do a through-hike and stay somewhere different each night, but it's beginning to sound like it might make more sense to stay in one or two places and then just do day hikes from our accommodations...

I’m sure it’s possible to do a through hike, but it does not seem to be very common, and with the transport options, choosing a base is easy enough. Staying anywhere on the ferry route (Travelmar is the operator) or in Atrani (since it’s a short walk from Amalfi) works well.

You didn’t mention what month you are going?
I have been hiking on the AC many times. One trip was an entire week of hiking every day. For that trip I used Sorrento and Minori as my bases. The Sorrento area is not as challenging as hiking further down the coast. Lonely Planet has a couple of books about hiking in Italy.
What you would like to do sounds great but will take some research to find lodging and put it all together, but it is probably possible. Hopefully you are going in the off season.
