Planning our trip to Italy and excited to hike the 52 tunnels in the Dolomites. Could someone recommend where to stay? Looking at the 2014 guide from Rick, the hike is discussed in the dolomite section and perhaps Castelrotto is the nearest town. How would it be to the hike and what are the transportation options? We were initially planning on staying in Vicenza but the dramatic Dolomites are so beautiful! Any ideas, comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciate. Btw: we live on Oahu. Mahalo!

I have no hotels to suggest but the 52 tunnels road is roughly between Rovereto and Schio. I presume those two towns would offer the most options, but it's possible there is something more in between.
Try to do a search on Valli del Pasubio, which is even closer. Otherwise go for the towns I said.
Not sure about public transportation options. It might be an area where a rental car might make more sense..
Although Rick makes a mention of these tunnels in our guidebook, we unfortunately don't have any information about them. I did a brief google search and found this helpful site on the via ferrata of the Dolomites:
