We will be home basing for two weeks in Spello, been hearing about nice hikes and walks originating in Spello. Any ideas, suggestions, books or places to get trail maps, pictures and tips? I love this forum, so very helpful! Thank you in advance for your thoughts! Karen Sortino
The Aqueduct trail - and you can get a 9x12 color brochure on it from the tourist office. I think you can also walk to Assisi from Spello if you have the stamina!
Just google.. hiking in Spello. Many options come up
Can't resist adding: on the mentioned aqueduct trail brochure, the translation of "Anziani e bambini" is "Oldery people and children." This is a great, mostly flat trail for the greater part of its length. Then, if you want to reach the village of Collepino at the end, it's a steep climb up. OK if the day is not too hot!
I was there in May, but stayed in Spoleto because I like more activity in the evenings. But Spello is so close by train from Spoleto, I went to Spello, once just to enjoy the beautiful streets and flowers of Spello and again to walk to Assisi. For me the walk from Spello to Assisi was easy and not very far...you can see Assisi from Spello.
It's only a few kilometers between Spelling and Assisi. You might want to visit Trevi as well (opposite direction from Assisi).
