We are traveling to Italy later October 2026 and I am noticing that hotel prices now increase rather significantly in October which was considered part of the shoulder season in the past. Rome prices in particular are higher. I checked the holidays list for Italy, and I don't see a holiday or festival listed that could affect prices. Have shoulder season prices changed or is there something else driving costs up after summer and into October?

Because of the heat of summer, spring and fall are peak seasons in Rome. At least that’s what I heard.

April thru October is peak season. There might be fewer visitors in August.
