Any advice on finding discount codes for Trenitalia and Italo high speed trains?
I recently had somebody explain discount codes to me. I have never heard of them for train tickets (or for much anything else in Europe). For long distance and high speed trains, the earlier you buy the tickets the cheaper they are. Prices only ever go up.
For local trains (Regionalle), prices are fixed, no discount for advance purchase.
Discount codes are enticements. I think the concept is fairly common in the USA, but I know I’ve seen a few European websites (probably hotels) where a discount/promo code can be entered.
For trenitalia just purchase early - that is your discount code.
You could register to Italotreno's newsletter and follow them on twitter.
Thank you.
There is no discount codes for Italian trains and the train pricing does not work like US airlines. You have three levels of fares - Super Economy, Econ, and Base. The first two are discount fares with restrictions. There is a limited number of tickets available at discount prices for each train. The exact number varies somewhat for each train and schedule. But once sold they are gone for that train and time. The Base fare is the standard price for the train and can be purchased at any time for the train. You do not have to play games for Italian train tickets. It is pretty straight forward.
Frank, I did not suggest to register on Italotreno's newsletter for the sake of railway marketing. I receive italo's promo codes every Friday. They must be used within a few days, but they are real.
Otherwise they would not have this block on the passenger info page once you have selected a train.
"Do you have a discount coupon?"
Italotreno also asks if you have a Promo Code on its journey planner page.
I do get Italo’s Newsletter but unfortunately it’s in Italian. I guess I goofed. Lol.
