Anyone know when Trenatalia or Italo will be selling tickets for August?

Typically schedules and tix available by June 12

For which date and route?

There is some construction on some lines this summer so that may affect when available but can’t really help you without knowing more details

As it says they are currently rescheduling, possibly due to construction
Just keep checking every few days, it’s still quite early for mid August
Don’t worry, they won’t sell out, multiple trains every hour

You can already buy tickets for August. In fact, you can already buy tickets all the way to November.

However, it is possible that for some trains, on some routes ticket sales are not open yet. Usually because works on the line are planned that require schedule changes. On Trenitalia you will see those trains marked as "Currently not available for purchase. We are rescheduling travel solutions."

If you use third party sites is possible that his site interprets the error message it gets from the Trenitalia booking system incorrectly and this often leads to confusion.

What is happening in this case:
- From Aug 10 to 28 the section of the Rome - Florence between Orvieto and Chiusi will be closed for maintenance. That means that trains will have to leave the line in Orvieto, continue on the old line, and then join then new line at Chiusi. That means longer travel times, and therefore they need to work out a complete new schedule for both the new and the old line between Rome and Florence.

And because most high speed trains travel that route (it is the oldest, and one of the busiest in Europe) pretty much all their schedules need to be remade. Which is why this also affects eg. Florence to Venice.

Just wait. August is still a long time away.

In addition to Wengen's sound advice above:

  • August 15 is a national holyday. Second only to Xmas day. Long distance trains will be particularly crowded before and after the holyday, not so much on the 15th.
  • as the date nears, engineering works planned years in advance may cause less problems than expected. Just like it has just happened in Florence regarding the works that will take place in July 2026. In short, sometimes the "temporarily not available" warning is good news.
