Hello travel friends,
I’ve scheduled Sicily 2019 - 3 weeks.
And Italy 2020 - 4 weeks.
I’ve done the “Greatest Hits” on many previous visits to both Italy and Sicily.
My question: what unexpected “Hidden Gems” have you experienced and recommend - little towns, special places. Thanks for your input.
Hidden gems, I’m not sure, but we enjoyed the rock formations at Scala de Turchi, Realmonte. Nearby Lido Rosello had a nice beach, but there’s not much else there. We also enjoyed Marsala and the nearby salt pans for the day we were there.
Verona and Bergamo come to mind.
I enjoyed Caltagirone in Sicily as a less touristy town, with its beautiful and colorful staircase, murals, public gardens and ceramic shops.
In Sicily, there’s Trapani, Agrigento, Piazza Armerina, Ragusa, Modica, Scicli, Ortigia. On the mainland, Trieste, Treviso, Vicenza, Turin, the small wine towns of the Piedmont near Alba- Barolo, Asti, Barbaresco. Val d’Aosta and Courmayeur in the northwest with the Skyway Monte Bianco. Sardinia.
Have you done Puglia?
