hertz rental drop off in florence

hello again, we are planning on dropping off our rental car upon arrival in florence. we are coming from assisi. i really dont want to get overwhelmed with florence traffic. i have two questions. 1. where is the most easily accessible hertz drop off (remember i suck in city traffic)? 2. any suggestions for hotels (around 100 euros/night) near the drop off? thanks in advance

I dropped my car off at the airport and took the express bus from there to the train station. It was very easy and no driving near the dreaded ZTL's. As for hotels, there are many in town to choose from. Check Trip Advisor. I stayed at Hotel Il Bargellino, located within walking distance of the train station, but also walkable to many other things. The current rate for a double with bath is 90/100€ per night.

We're dropping our car off in Orvieto and catching the train. The rental car drop off is at the train station there. Maybe you could spend a few hours in Orvieto before moving on. Chiusi would probably be another good place to drop off. Hotel Maxim would probably fit your price range in Florence and it's a stone's throw from the Duomo. Happy travels!

Drop off at 53 Via del Sansovino. There is a big Hertz rental location there. Coming from Assisi you will be traveling on the A1 freeway. In Florence, the exit you must take is FIRENZE SCANDICCI (before that one you will pass by the following Florence exits: FIRENZE SUD and FIRENZE IMPRUNETA). Once you exit at FIRENZE SCANDICCI exit, pay toll. Right after the toll booth you will enter another freeway with blu signs (blu freeway signs=free, green freeway signs=toll freeway). Follow the blue sign directing you to FIRENZE (not Pisa-Livorno, otherwise it will take you away from Florence). Follow the directions to FIRENZE. That blue sign freeway will end shortly as you enter Florence. Go straight, follow the direction to CENTRO (with a Target symbol). CENTRO (or the Target symbol) means City Center. Eventually you'll reach a big roundabout. Keep going straight on that boulevard (called viale Talenti). After that roundabout, in the median of that blvd, there are the tracks of the Tramway, if you see the tramway tracks you are doing good. Next there is another roundabout. keep going straight. That is now via del Sansovino. Hertz will be on your right maybe 100 yds after that roundabout. Don't stay in a hotel in that area. Make reservations downtown where things are. From that Hertz location take a taxi (ask Hertz to call one for you) to the historical city center or the tramway (the tramway takes you to the central station, called Santa Maria Novella station). Print this message for future reference.

If you can drive straight on a 4 lane divided highway without hitting the cars in front of you, and if can go around a roundabout (twice), you'll have no issues with driving to that location. Just make sure you follow the European freeway rules. No cruising on the left lane (passing only lane), no passing cars from the right (always pass on the left of the car using the left lanes). If while on passing on the left (passing lane) a fast car comes from nowhere flashing their lights and tailgates you 1 inch behind your bumper at 100 miles per hour, it means that you must move over to the right lane so he can pass you. Move over quickly. A Frenchwoman on a peugeot once bumped me off the freeway near Montecarlo because I wasn't moving over to the right lane fast enough. Also no right turn permitted on a red light in Europe. However nearly all intersections have replaced street lights with roundabouts, so you won't have to deal with street lights too much.
