Hertz Car Rental in Orvieto

Everyone is so nice and helpful here in this Forum.

I have a question regarding Car Rental in Orvieto. We are staying at Orvieto for 3 nights and planning to drive to Civita Di Bagnoregia in the morning, then have lunch at Lake Bolsena plus strolling in the town of Bolsena before returning the car at the end of the day. I have read some negative reviews relating to the only car rental agency in Orvieto. So, I am planning to book it directly thru Hertz, buy the super-cover and possibly the emergency road side help. Then, make sure that I fuel the tank to full and have a receipt indicating the tank is full. This way, I am hoping to avoid being overcharge for damages that wasn't our fault.

Also, is driving in the right side very difficult from Americans?

Your two cents will be very much appreciated. I just discovered this forum and I love reading every thread.

If you live in America and you are driving on the left side, I recommend you consider giving up your license as soon as possible.

My wife and I rented a vehicle from the Orvieto Hertz in Aug 2019. I had booked it directly with Hertz almost a year earlier. (We were leaving after a 2 day stay in Orvieto, driving to Montepulciano area.)
It went well.

It is an easy 5 minute walk from the train station.
We bought the super-cover, and appreciated the peace of mind.
The woman at the front counter was helpful, and we had no English communication issues.

I had been unable to reserve an automatic directly on the website, so had reserved a manual. When we arrived in Orvieto by train (two days before our car rental), we walked down to the Hertz office to confirm its location. While there, I asked for an upgrade to automatic, and they said they would try but could not promise. Two days later when we picked up the car, it was an automatic.

I had no problem driving in Italy during the 4 days we had it rented, which included driving through the Tuscan countryside and then turning the car in at a busy location in Siena. We bought the option of returning the gas tank non-full, and (as I recall) never added gas during the time we had the car, so I can't report on the experience of using an Italian gas station.

For navigation I downloaded (over Wi-Fi) and used a map of the region from Google Maps to my cell-phone -- which wasn't connected to a mobile wireless network. Worked mighty fine.

Thank you Jeff! Your reply is super helpful. Yes, I will buy the super cover just for the peace of mind because of the horror stories that I read online.

I rented from them and had no problem. I called hertz and ordered an automatic ahead of time. I have primary coverage via chase sapphire reserve so no issues. I returned the car in Florence. Again no issues. I also had no issues driving on the right side of the road. Ha
