What time of day and how often do the bells ring in Venice at St. Mark's, the Duomo in Florence, Rome and Sorrento? I am particularly interested when the bells at full peel.

Amazing what you can find on the net when you type in bells Venice into your search engine: http://www.casesf.com/VeniceBells.htm
I think I just heard Ruth squealing with delight. :-)
If you really want to maximize the experience, go to the top of the St. Marks Campanile at 12 noon as I did once. Perhaps a bit much ...
Yea, or time it so that you are just about to the top of the circular stairwell in the Campanile in Florence when they go off. Quite a rush that is and VERY loud.
We were up the Campanile in Venice when the bells started - totally not on purpose, but a def highlight of our trip! It was funny because some people were so taken with the view, they didn't notice the bells swaying and when that first bong hit! Whew - jumping out of their skins...
Thank you, Everyone! You can tell I am very excited about the bells! My trip is now 12 weeks away and I am counting the minutes! lol Ruth
If bells really appeal (see what I did there? ;-) you might enjoy a trip to England where bells peal changes in most churches around the country every Sunday. We love change ringing so much we regularly get up early on a Sunday and journey into London, especially at the north side of St Pauls Cathedral where we listen to the most beautiful bells in England (IOMHO) then go for a walk and hear those of St Vedast, St Michael Cornhill, St Mary-le-Bow, St Brides, and by the Guildhall is a lovely peal of bells at St Lawrence Jewry. yummmm For a sample, have a listen to http://www.soundsurvey.org.uk/index.php/survey/soundacts_re1/religious1/274/
Thank you Nigel! Those indeed are glorious bells -- I have saved them on my desktop for easy reference. I would like to travel to England in the future.

My husband and I also love the bells in Italy. The bells in Bologna were especially beautiful on our last trip. It is just one of those things that catches us by surprise, no matter how many times we visit. Tutte le campane sono belle al senso in Italia!
If you really, really like bells, then consider coming to Frankfurt when they have the "Pealing of the Bells", 4 times a year. This is 50 bells in 10 downtown churches ringing together for 30 min. Truly amazing sound! Dates are Christmas Eve at 17:00, day before Easter at 16:30, day before Pfingston at 16:30, and the day before the 1st Advent Sunday t 16:30.
