Herculaneum closed on Wednesday!!

We were in Sorrento last week and made a day trip to Herculaneum on Wednesday. Sadly the site was closed and has been closed on Wednesday for some time due to covid. Sorry we missed seeing the ruins.

That's a good reminder, rbooner. Yep, it's not unusual for Italian attractions to be closed one day each week, and Wed. is Herculaneum's day. Google translated from the website:
https://ercolano.beniculturali.it

"INFORMATION FOR THE VISIT
TIMETABLES:
From 16/03 to 14/10: from 9.30 to 19.30 (last admission 18.00; the archaeological area must be left by 19.00)

From 15/10 to 15/03: from 8.30 to 17.00 (last admission 15.30; the archaeological area must be left by 16.40)

ATTENTION: The closing times indicated refer to the closure of the Park gates. It is therefore recommended to leave the archaeological area and the refreshment areas and leave in good time.

Closing days: every WEDNESDAY, January 1st, December 25th"

Like anything else in these interesting times, that could change. In the meantime, for anyone fortunate enough NOT to be there on Wednesdays here's a handy printed guide in English:

Pompeii is currently open every day (advance reservations required for Saturdays and bank holidays) but that could change on November 1 so keep an eye on the website. It is closed on: 25th December, 1st May and 1st January.

I'm sorry you arrived at a closed site. Thanks for reminding all of us to check (and recheck) websites for places we want to see to make sure we know the most up-to-date hours information.
