I find lots of information for history of the monument and specific parts of it online, but I'm having a hard time putting together a walking plan to actually visit it all. The monument is huge so I want to avoid back tracking or a dead end.
I was going to start at the base in the front and walk up through the staircases as far as you can go to see all the sculptures on the front side, Tomb of the unknown soldier and the statue of Emmanuel and keep going up. It looks like from some pictures some of the way might be roped off. So how far can you go? Can you walk all the way up to the panoramic terrace at the very top?
The two big doorways on the fronts of the wings, are they still access points for getting inside or are those closed?
I think the Museum of the Risorgimento is inside the monument but I think I saw the entrance is on the back side of the building now?
I see there is an elevator to the panoramic terrace, is that on the back side of the building only?
What would be a good plan on how to see it all?
