Help with understanding options in Ragusa, please!

Hello All

We are renting a car from Hertz at Catania airport and then driving to Taormina, Agrigento , Ragusa. After Ragusa, our trip will bring us to Ortigia and back to Catania for a 2 night stay (visiting the WWII museum, fish market, etc) then flying out of Catania.

Hertz has a rental office in Ragusa, not Siracusa, so we will need to drop off car in Ragusa, then train to Siracusa for our stay in Ortigia. The Hertz station (down the street from Piazzale Della Croce) is not close to the train station. I am trying to figure out if Bus #11 goes to that area.

We hate taking taxis (gotten ripped off twice) but would if needed. Any suggestions are very appreciated and welcome!

Why not change to car rental with a drop off in Siracusa/ Ortigia? We dropped a rental car off in Siracusa a very short walk from Ortigia.

Thanks Suki but there isn’t a Hertz office in Siracusa and the time we used other consolidators, we had a terrible experience. We usually always rely on public transportation in Italy, but we wanted to explore certain areas and feel we really need a car.

It may not matter to you but we used Avis out of Siracusa and were very satisfied. We reserved through auto Europe. The rental car places are right next to train station in Siracusa. We rented there and drove to Ragusa.

Ragusa new section is quite far from old. Ragusa is also complicated to drive in. I would not want to do what you are proposing.

I agree. You will not be able to drive in the old part of Ragusa and Ragusa has a lot of hills. People drive there every day but there are familiar with local laws and know where they’re going. It can be done, I guess, by the adventurous soul.
