help with train tickets venice to salzburg

hello,

I am requesting help trying to sort out if Im doing this the right way or not , I went to db bahn ( i knew today was the earliest day that i I could purchase tickets based on previous investigation) there are 3 different times of trains, the latest one has the price the other 2 have a box saying request price or something like that so I proceeded and filled out info and supposedly Ill be hearing from them with a price quote at which time Ill have like 24 hrs to accept or not , is this the right way to be booking this train or is there another way to do it ? any suggestions appreciated . Is there another site I should be using ? thank you Sue

It is apparently one way, though my recollection was that DBahn usually did not quote prices for routes not originating in, or ending in Germany, but Salzburg being essentially a border town, you may go through Germany or Salzburg may be considered a German desitination by them.

Since you are originating in Italy, I would consider looking at Trenitalia, I was having trouble with the site so I could not verify, but you should be able to buy tickets there, and they may be cheaper.

You could try other commercial sites, but the prices on place like RailEurope, tend to be higher and usually are only the premium tickets.

The answer can be found on www.oebb.at the official train website of Austria. Not only are there train runs, there are runs that include a bus from the Tronchetto in Venice to Villach and then a train to Salzburg. You can get fares as low as 38Euro if you can book 90 days in advance. You don't indicate when you will be traveling but here's a snapshot of what I see on the Austrian website. http://gyazo.com/af5b6ed252d70096ef63a7815f967046

I learned on this forum that, even when train reservations are not required, they are a very good idea on busy routes. With a reservation, you just go to your seat, stow your bags, and settle in. Without a reservation, you may stand for part or all of the way.
