planning a day trip to Naples from Rome
looking at Jan 2 2019-WEDNESDAY-----------HOWEVER-Am I reading this correct? HELP PLEASE
Jan 1, 2019 is a TUESDAY -IT IS CLOSED !
jAN 2 is a Wednesday AFTER THE "HOLIDAY"----------SO IT IS CLOSED?????
According to the web site:

The Museum is open from Monday to Sunday from 9.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
***It is closed on Tuesday.
When Tuesday coincides with a holiday, it is closed on Wednesday.*
It is closed on December 25th and January 1st.**

That's exactly what the Italian announcment says - the closing day is shifted to the follwoing workday. (Quando il martedì è festivo il Museo posticipa la chiusura al mercoledì.). So, sorry for you - hope you have still time on Wednesday.
I think there's a strong possibility that you won't know until you get there. Be prepared to call. Since they're not going to open for holiday visitors on Jan. 1 (an exception to the usual holiday plan) there's no reason for them to switch their closed day to Jan. 2, unless they just want to enjoy a longer holiday, which they certainly might.

I sure read that to mean that they will be closed for the holiday, Tues., Jan 1, AND then closed the next day, Wed., Jan 2. Another vote for calling them if at all possible for clarification. Good luck! I hope that you can make the day trip on another day....
Yep, it's closed on both Tuesday and Wednesday if Tuesday is a holiday. It's like in the US when workers get the 24th of December off if Christmas falls on a Saturday.
I'd still email them just to be sure.

Just got an email-------looks like the naples museuem will be OPEN JAN 2!
we confirm you that the Museum will be closed on January 1 and open on January 2 2019.

I am skeptical too. I have been to Naples (and loved it) but I would not plan a trip around what one person sayscover what web site says.
It's not really a matter of the staff disagreeing with the web site but of the web site being poorly worded, probably incomplete, and not frequently updated. Plus what Dario said.
